As a key player in our clinical research enterprise, Research Pharmacy is responsible for pharmaceutical management of investigational drugs for oncology trials. Our mission is to provide the highest quality pharmaceutical care to our research patients. The primary objective of Research Pharmacy Clinical Specialist is to serve as a liaison between Investigators, study teams, research nursing, research pharmacy to respond timely to disease centers’ and patients' pharmaceutical and clinical needs, including protocol activation, amendment implementation, dose escalation and modification, supporting meds, etc. Motivated candidates are encouraged to apply to work in this fast pace working environment with a rapidly growing oncology trial portfolio at Dana-Farber, including phase I trials.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews clinical research protocols and subsequent amendments for pharmacy specific implications. Represents the pharmacy department on key DFCI clinical research protocol committees.

  • Works closely with study team and sponsor to activate new protocols and subsequent amendments in a timely manner. Works closely with EPIC and COE team to build and validate all research protocols in EPIC in a timely manner.

  • Evaluates patient medication history and comorbidities based on screening qualification, inclusion & exclusion criteria, and prohibited medications per study protocols.

  • Assists Investigators in writing patient study drug and chemo orders under the supervision of Investigators. Assists Investigators in processing dose escalation, dose modification per study protocol stipulation. Assists study team in interpreting lab results to proceed with study drug and/or SOC chemo treatments.

  • Reviews concomitant medication usage to identify drug-drug or drug-food interaction with study drug. Reviews AEs and SAEs in relation to investigational drugs and other treatments. Intervention if needed per study protocol. Educate and console patients for investigational drug usage and administration.

  • Leads Research Pharmacy in-service to guide study team and nursing with respect to study drug administration, monitoring, and adverse effects.

  • Participates educational programs including precepting pharmacy students and pharmacy residents.

  • Collaborates with investigators by making recommendations of operational logistics and drug information for new clinical trials. Builds relationship with DFCI research community, including research nurses, CRCs, study teams, etc.

    Qualifications:
  • Pharm.D. degree or B.S. in Pharmacy from an accredited college of Pharmacy.

  • Must be licensed to practice pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

  • 5 to 7 years of hospital pharmacy, retail pharmacy, or clinical trial research experience with a minimum of 4 years in area of specialty or completion of an ASHP accredited PGY2 residency in Oncology is required.

  • Must be Board Certified in Oncology Pharmacy (BCOP) or advanced degree related to the specialty practice area is preferred.
