JOB SUMMARY: Hawkeye Community College’s Respiratory Care program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care. Students train in Hawkeye’s state-of-the-art patient simulator laboratory with its basic and advanced adult, maternal, pediatric, and neonatal simulators. Waterloo is located in the heart of the Cedar Valley, a vibrant area balancing urban convenience with small-town charm. The area offers excellent cultural, recreational, dining, shopping entertainment, and educational opportunities. It is a great place to live, work, and raise a family. This is a full-time teaching position with clinical coordinator duties in our Respiratory Care Program. This position has the responsibility of providing high-quality classroom instruction and leadership to the students of the Respiratory Care Program. Teaching assignments may include days and evenings, and various sites and formats (face-to-face, on-line, ICN). Necessary skills for this position include the ability to formulate and maintain curriculum for assigned courses, employ instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives, assess student progress on a regular basis, and provide progress reports as required. Experience with or commitment to various instructional modalities such as computer-mediated instruction is essential. This individual will be expected to demonstrate exemplary teamwork skills and communication skills with students, supervisors, program faculty, the Advisory Committee, other divisions of the College, and the community. Leadership opportunities are available in the following areas: expanding and integrating curriculum with virtual simulations and alternate delivery formats; direction of clinical experience; developing continuing/professional education offerings: advising and mentoring; and initiatives to increase enrollment of nontraditional students.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree required. Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and hold such professional license or certificate required for employment in the state of current or most recent employment. A minimum of four years work experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (at least two years should have been spent in clinical respiratory care and at least two years in a preceptor/teaching position). Preferences include Master’s degree, formal teacher training/experience. Consideration will be given for additional current certifications, e.g., CPR, ACLS, PALS, NRP, OSHA/HIPAA, and Mandatory Reporter.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Nine-month contractual position with anticipated start date of January 2016. Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s education and experience and will include a comprehensive benefits program including health, dental, life, and LTD insurance; a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expense; personal and sick leave; and a choice of retirement programs--IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA-CREF (defined contribution).
