The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine is currently seeking a Physician Assistant to join our team of professionals.
Duties include:
• Collaborate with NHELP treatment team in all phases of assessment, planning and treatment for underserved residents in the City of South Miami. Performs a complete psychosocial and physical assessment. Obtains and records medical and social histories for patients of all ages which have implications for treatment of the disease processes (including social determinants of health) for which the patients are being seen.
• Performs and records a complete or problem focused physical examination for patients of all ages. Order and/or perform, evaluate, interpret and integrate findings of diagnostic tests and procedures to formulate health management plan. Evaluates and makes recommendations for patient/family health/psychosocial management plan with full consideration of patient safety needs under the supervision of the medical director.
• Manages emergent/urgent/acute health problems including alcohol and drug withdrawal, and document care, under the direction and protocols of the medical director. Provides patient/family education and counseling with full consideration of patient safety needs under the direction of the medical director.
• Discusses patient care and social/educational/legal needs with physician and/or other health or social service professionals when appropriate.
• Refers and navigates patients to physician or to specialized healthcare or psychosocial resources for consultation/treatment/services as appropriate.
• Prescribes medication as permitted by the Florida Board of Medicine under the direction of the supervising physician
• Performs standing orders or other orders delineated by the medical director. Assists in behavioral health events, management, and procedures. Establishes a health status database that is pertinent to visit.
• Maintains patients' medical records according to established standards and documents in a systematic, accurate and succinct format. Reviews records with supervisory physician on a routine basis.
• Maintains an environment of safety for patients, Participate in continuing education as required by licensing body and medical staff bylaws.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Graduate of a Physician Assistant Program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant. Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent; One or more years of related experience and / training preferred. Licensed as a Physician Assistant in the State of Florida.

• At least one (1) year of related experience and/or training as a Physician Assistant.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification
