The professional we select for this vital role will administer respiratory therapy and life support to patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies and/or abnormalities. This individual will evaluate patient status, assess, assign therapy objectives, and determine requirements for treatment, including type and duration of therapy, medication, and dosages. In addition, this person will:
Determine the most suitable method of administering treatments, precautions, and modifications.
Setting up and operating such equipment as mechanical ventilators, CPAP and BPAP machines, and oxygen tanks.
Monitoring each patient's physiological responses to therapy.
Educating patients and families.
Performing ventilator management, airway management, and responding to Code 55 pages.
Performing stat emergent procedures.
Observing equipment function and adjusting equipment to attain optimum therapy results.
Consulting with physician in the event of adverse reactions.
Documenting in the patient's chart pertinent information related to treatments.
Inspecting and testing respiratory therapy equipment for safety and efficiency.
Demonstrating respiratory care procedures to trainees and other healthcare personnel.
Graduation from an approved respiratory therapist program.
An associate's degree or equivalent from an accredited two-year college or technical school.
Registered status or registry eligibility.
Respiratory licensure in both WI and IL.
Ability to pass the WI and IL Health Care Workers Background Check.
Current CPR certification.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Good basic math skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to lift/move items weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, and occasionally exert up to 100 pounds of force.
