Physician Assistant

Orthopaedic Surgery Specialists (OSS) Burbank is a premier orthopaedic practice in Los Angeles. Our goal is to deliver high quality musculoskeletal care with compassion. Position Summary:

The provider is responsible for the assessment of selected patients. The provider will diagnose illnesses, develop and manage treatment plans, prescribe medications, conduct clinical research, offer advice on preventative health care, order and interpret diagnostic tests and exams, and if needed, will be a first assist in surgery as well as perform medical procedures. The provider will utilize advanced health assessment knowledge and decision-making skills. This position requires high-level clinical acumen and customer service skills to establish and develop positive relationships with patients, referring physicians and strategic alliances. The ultimate goal of the provider is to continuously monitor and improve clinical outcomes and satisfaction for OSS patients.

Responsibilities

• Provides health care services to patients under the direction of board certified/eligible physician
• Promotes and maintains patient health by providing medical services under the supervisor of a Supervising Physician
• Assess patient health by interviewing patients: performs comprehensive physical examination; compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination
• Under the direction of the Supervising Physician, conduct patient assessments, order or directly provide treatments, and provide patient education and support
• Work under protocol to develop an effective, safe and patient-centered treatment plan
• Provide timely and complete clinical documentation in the EHR following patient visits or telephone calls
• Maintain ongoing communication with the Supervising Physician regarding assigned patients and provide timely notification of changes in patient status
• Attend case conferences, clinical rounds, and other types of meetings which address patient management and care coordination
• Maintain ongoing communication with other members of the care team through written documentation, telephone or in-person conversation
• Partner with the patient to develop contracts of care as needed and provide encouragement and motivational support to promote adherence to treatment plans
• Ensure timely access of patient appointments
• Perform other duties as determined collaboratively by the Supervising Physicians that are within the scope of practice of a physician assistant and the health care institution's policies

Skills Required:

• Advanced knowledge of the musculoskeletal system including anatomy, physiology and common diseases
• Ability to evaluate and manage common musculoskeletal conditions
• Ability to design and implement individualized treatment/prevention programs in collaboration with physicians
• Ability to recognize urgent and emergency musculoskeletal conditions
• Ability to communicate effectively and facilitate relations with other medical professionals
• Ability to take direction from the OSS physicians
• Ability to understand instructions and ask questions
• Ability to counsel and coach patients for compliance
• Ability to lo learn and perform techniques used to reduce fractures and dislocations
• Ability to lo learn and perform joint injections and joint aspirations
• Ability to lo learn how to interpret X-ray images and advanced diagnostic tests
• Self-awareness and strong interpersonal skills (emotional intelligence -EQ)
• Strong desire for continuous learning and improvement
• Physical and emotional stamina
• Compassion for patients

Qualifications

• Graduate of ARC-PA Program
• Bachelor's degree required
• Certification by the National Commission of Physician Assistants
• Current CA Physician Assistant License (PA-C)
• ACLS from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• DEA Certification required or eligible to obtain

Experience

Minimum 1 year experience in Orthopedics
