Calling All Nurses: New Models of Care Insight Study Is Now Live and Seeking Participation

The survey, which was built by Joslin Insight, should take about five minutes to complete. It is being distributed to various healthcare organizations, industry groups, and social media outlets, and is available at https://healthcareplussg.com/models-of-care-insight-study/
Any nurse who wishes to take the survey is welcome to do so—in fact, it’s important that we have as many participants as possible.
The Models of Care Insight Study is designed to capture best practices so they can ultimately be shared with others.
“How do you create a healthcare system that’s sustainable for both the human element and the financial side?” says Studer. “As an industry, we have the willpower and the brainpower to solve these problems. Many people across the country are implementing creative ideas we can all learn from.”
The immediate goal of the study is to collect best practices from organizations all over the country and share them to help ease the nursing crisis and to identify gaps/disconnects between nurse leaders and frontline nurses. Earlier research conducted by Joslin Insight with the American Nurses Foundation (ANF) initially identified these gaps. ANA underscores the urgency to solve pressing issues and challenges nurses nationwide are facing daily.
“We are continuing to see evidence that nurse leaders are interested in learning more about how to evolve care delivery models, particularly while in the midst of a labor crisis, skyrocketing supply costs, high acuity, increasing demand, and red operating margins,” says Katie Boston-Leary, director of nursing programs at the American Nurses Association. “By creating better places for nurses to work, we believe organizations will help relieve caregiver stress, elevate staff well-being, retain the best talent, and improve patient outcomes.”
The survey kicked off in early November 2022 with qualitative listening interviews from 50 VPs, CNEs, CNOs, directors, and managers. The quantitative survey questions were based on themes uncovered in these interviews.
Joslin Insight—a customer insights and strategy consulting firm—specializes in healthcare and utilizes unbiased qualitative and quantitative research to help leaders make smart decisions. Joslin Insight will provide a full report of the results of the quantitative study. The data report is to include analysis of nurse and leader input, correlations by roles, and cross-analysis to measure gaps wherever applicable.
“Our hope is that every hospital in the U.S. will share their ideas on reimagining healthcare delivery models,” says Studer. “We’re looking not only for big, transformative trends in care delivery models shifts but also ‘small but mighty’ ideas that are having a big impact.”
Studer and Boston-Leary will roll out the survey findings at the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) 2023 Congress on Healthcare Leadership, to be held Monday, March 20, to Thursday, March 23, 2023, at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. The session is titled Leadership Insights: Managing the Nurse Staffing Crisis—an Overview of the Latest Study and Alternative Models of Care That Will Shape the Future of Nursing, and is currently scheduled for Monday, March 20, from 10:00-11:30 a.m. CT.
Studer says this study is just the beginning.
“We want to create an ongoing data repository designed for people to collect and share this vital information,” he says. “To encourage participation in our study, those who take part will enjoy unlimited access to all reports.
“Finally, we are so grateful to our advisory council and the early interview participants who have brought us to this point, as well as to anyone who participates in the study,” adds Studer. “When we all work together, we can make healthcare better.”
