Working Hours and Load Calculation:


 


The person in this position works 37.5 hours per week (five days at 7.5 hours per day excluding a 30-minute lunch break each day), when classes are in session during fall and spring semesters. Total clock hours per semester are estimated to be 525 hours, which includes an estimated 75 hours for competency evaluation and accreditation activities. Based on 525 clock hours, the load for this position is equivalent to 21 credits per semester, so the position will receive six credits of overload payment per semester. An administrative agreement is generally issued for some summer work in addition to the above.


 


Summary:


 


Faculty members are appointed and assigned rank according to established policies and collective bargaining agreements. Specific items such as wages, fringe benefits, and job responsibilities are determined by the College's collective bargaining agreement with the recognized faculty bargaining unit and institutional practices.


 


As professionals in a community college setting, faculty are involved in a variety of instructional and non-instructional activities which contribute to goals and objectives of a comprehensive two-year institution. The following description of faculty duties and qualifications clarifies the expectations of this institution and is not considered complete or exclusive.


 


The Health Professions academic support faculty member oversees and manages the HP Resource Center (HPRC) and coordinates remediation and referrals for HP students in lecture, lab and simulation. This individual creates a supportive learning environment and fosters activities that support student success. This individual collaborates and works parallel with faculty to ensure appropriate structured activities are planned. This individual develops and implements remedial learning methods, supports student success, accurately documents and inputs data into databases, and supports HP students and faculty as requested. As a faculty member (specialized) this individual maintains load each semester.


 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

• Maintain office hours in accordance with the Faculty Bargaining Agreement.


 


• Participate in student advising and registration.


 


• Assist students in formulating educational and career plans.


 


• Assist students with academic or course problems.


 


• Establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty and staff.


 


• Maintain accurate and complete course records and comply with all specified reporting dates.


 


• Serve on college committees and participate in college governance.


 


• Participate each semester in the evaluation and documentation of the instructional process and work to continually improve student-learning outcomes.


 


• Employ a variety of teaching techniques and strategies to address the diverse learning needs of students.


 


• Attend instructional division, Academic Affairs area and institution-wide meetings.


 


• Assist in developing budget for division, if applicable.


 


• Engage in professional development, advisory boards and other external agencies to stay current in the field and ensure updated curriculum.


 


• Notify the Sr. Vice President of Academic Affairs/Provost of special projects, activities, etc. that may be used in publicizing the class, division, or College.


 


• Maintain an awareness of effects of all actions or comments on retention, recruitment, and institutional image.


 


• Stimulate interest in student activities by encouraging student participation.


 


• Participate in graduation exercises as required.


 


• Utilize technology to facilitate learning, improve student success, maintain course records, access the Student Information System, and communicate with others. Ensure all course assignments and course evaluations are linked to the LMS gradebook.


 


• Work collaboratively with the Dean and Associate Dean, and Division faculty on initiatives to improve student success rates in division courses.


 


• Perform related duties as assigned.


 


• Oversee, develop and update Student Success Day, Remediation and Readmission Courses and additional courses developed to support student learning,


 


• Occasionally serves as back up for health professions teaching faculty in simlab, lab, and lecture.


 



  • A member of the Nursing Faculty Team must also (in concert with the above):


 


• Uphold responsibility to the Dean of Health Professions for course related activities.


 


• Assist with course related activities, including but not limited to preparation of course materials, recommendations for textbooks, guest speakers, special experiences, test construction, and grading of papers and tests.


 


• Conduct classes in accordance with the philosophy, organizing of competencies, and performance objectives of the nursing program.


 


• Assist students with course-related problems and make appropriate referrals.


 


• Assist students with course-related problems and make appropriate referrals.


 


• Maintaining expertise in clinical area of specialization


 


• Assist team leader as assigned.


 


• Attend all division and program meetings as assigned.


 


• Participate in nursing faculty committees and accreditation work as assigned.


 



  • As a faculty member specialized, this individual:


 


• Fosters persistence and completion in Health Professions by supporting remediation and referrals of students by their course instructors.


 


• This individual works with students and faculty to develop learning and improvement plans for student success.


 


• Monitors progress of students with check-ins, scheduled meetings or proactive outreach and communication, responding to students’ questions, concerns and needs.


 


• Conducts academic coaching through individual or group sessions that help students assess their own performance and develop academic success plans.


 


• Assists students in developing self-efficacy by identifying and overcoming obstacles that may be impeding academic success; works with students to learn strong time management and organization skills; motivates students to practice self-regulation and take ownership of their academic success.


 


• Helps students in identifying, developing and implementing learning strategies and study skills specific to course materials.


 


• Refers students to appropriate academic personnel and support resources and collaborates with others to monitor and accelerate the academic progress of the students referred.


 


• Coordinates and works with faculty regarding HPRC and/or open lab support for skills development.


 


• Maintains and monitors the HPRC/open lab schedule/database, generates and runs reports as needed. Utilizes data to develop and modify existing practices.


 


• Maintains oversight of student attendance and behaviors in the HPRC and open lab.


 


• Coordinates with faculty members teaching courses to ensure consistency in deployment of course material, and to support skills validations.


 


• Supports the lab for intensives, skills lab, and simulation experiences.


 


• Maintains and manages the supplies, equipment, and setup of the HPRC (and open lab as needed).


 


• Supports remediation and referrals of students by their course instructors.


 


• Communicates often with faculty regarding student situations in the HPRC/open lab.


 


• Facilitates tours of the HPRC and open lab for prospective faculty and students, special visitors, and guests.


 


• Develops and integrates individualized and experiential learning experiences in the HPRC and open lab.


 


• Models professional standards, including customer service, collaboration, communication, excellence, and attendance


 


• Develops, implements and enforces policies and procedures related to the HPRC and open lab in conjunction with the appropriate supervisors and the lab managers.


 


• Orients new staff and faculty to the HPRC and lab, (i.e. communicates policies, procedures, and operations of equipment) and supports the orientation of new students to the HPRC and nursing open lab.


 


• As a faculty member, this individual participates in continuing professional development and achievement of service goals of the College as appropriate based on the rank and tenure status, and interacts professionally and courteously with all faculty, staff, students, and users of the HPRC and labs.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:


 


Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) required/doctoral degree preferred. Successful experience in nursing practice including clinical practice within the last 4 years. College level teaching experience is preferred. Experience in distance education, i.e. online, hybrid and/or web enhanced courses or willingness to learn and teach in these modes is desirable.


 


Communication Skills:


 


Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, course syllabi and related teaching documents. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, other faculty, administration, boards of trustees and the general public.


 


Mathematical Skills:


 


Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, course syllabi and related teaching documents. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, other faculty, administration, boards of trustees and the general public.


 


Reasoning Ability:


 


Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


 


Computer Skills:


 


To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software and Spreadsheet software. In addition, should be able to learn and utilize a variety of education software packages.


 


Certificates, Licenses, Registration:


 


Current nursing licensure to practice in Pennsylvania is required.


 


Other Skills and Abilities:
