Nurse Practitioner

Orthopaedic Surgery Specialists (OSS) Burbank is a premier orthopaedic practice in Los Angeles. Our goal is to deliver high quality musculoskeletal care with compassion. Position Summary:

The provider is responsible for the assessment of selected patients. The provider performs physical examinations, confers with patients in person and by phone/electronically, collaborates with physicians, physician assistants, physical therapists and support staff to assure smooth flow of patient care consistent with established quality indicators and participates in the overall coordination of patient care. The provider will utilize advanced health assessment knowledge and decision-making skills. This position requires high-level clinical acumen and customer service skills to establish and develop positive relationships with patients, referring physicians and strategic alliances. The ultimate goal of the provider is to continuously monitor and improve clinical outcomes and satisfaction for OSS patients.

Skills Required:

• Advanced knowledge of the musculoskeletal system including anatomy, physiology and common diseases
• Ability to evaluate and manage common musculoskeletal conditions
• Ability to design and implement individualized treatment/prevention programs in collaboration with physicians
• Ability to recognize urgent and emergency musculoskeletal conditions
• Ability to communicate effectively and facilitate relations with other medical professionals
• Ability to take direction from the OSS physicians
• Ability to understand instructions and ask questions
• Ability to counsel and coach patients for compliance
• Ability to lo learn and perform techniques used to reduce fractures and dislocations
• Ability to lo learn and perform joint injections and joint aspirations
• Ability to lo learn how to interpret X-ray images and advanced diagnostic tests
• Self-awareness and strong interpersonal skills (emotional intelligence -EQ)
• Strong desire for continuous learning and improvement
• Physical and emotional stamina
• Compassion for patients

Job Duties:

• Implement treatment plans as directed by medical staff
• Coordinate preoperative clearance for patients undergoing surgery
• Coordinate care with primary care physicians and specialists
• Prescribe medications based on efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorized
• Order, preform, or interpret the results of diagnostic tests as indicated
• Osteoporosis evaluation and treatment
• Patient education
• Review medical records and outcomes assessment surveys
• Develop treatment plans based on standards of care and professional practice guidelines
• Document all patient care and contact in the medical record
• Monitor the patient’s health and general body condition and report changes and improvements to primary care and OSS physicians
• Develop collaborative relationships with referring physicians


• Minimum two (2) years of clinical experience with one (1) year in orthopedics
• Minimum one (1) year surgical 1st assisting experience within the last 3 years
• Graduate of approved Nurse Practitioner program, Physician Assistant program or equivalent requirements to meet State licensure.
• National certification required at time of hire/transfer.
• Current California NP and RN license required.
• Current American Heart Association BLS card
• National Provider Identification Number (NPI)
• Current DEA Registration Number
