GENERAL PURPOSE: Assist the Director of Nursing in planning organizing, developing, and directing the day to day functions of the Nursing Service Department in accordance with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines that govern our facility and as may be directed by the Administrator, the Medical Director and the Director of Nursing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: In addition to performing Essential Functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of supportive functions based upon the requirements of the organization.
1. Assist the Director of Nursing/Administrator in developing, maintaining, and updating our written policies and procedures the govern the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Department.
2. Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Director of Nursing/Administrator as necessary required, concerning the operation of the Nursing Department.
3. Participate in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program for the Nursing Department.
4. Participate in Facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested by the Administrator or Director of Nursing.
5. Participate in developing, implementing, and periodically updating the resident’s written discharge plan.
6. Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.
7. Assist in determining the staffing needs of the Nursing Department.
8. Participate in the development and implementation of performance evaluations for the Nursing Department.
9. Make daily rounds of the Nursing Department to ensure that all nursing personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards. Report findings to the Director of Nursing/Administrator.
10. Monitor the professional nurses’ licensing status to ensure that they remain current.
11. Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules to ensure that medications are being administered as ordered and that treatments are provided as scheduled.
12. Attend and participate in continuing education programs designed to keep you abreast of changes in your profession, as well as to maintain your license on a current status.
13. Assist the Resident Assessment/Care Plan Coordinator in planning, scheduling, and revising the MDS.
14. Report to Facility to work if staffing becomes dangerously low including conducting Medication pass.
15. All staff is required to follow all safety regulations and precautions at all times.
16. Staff must ensure that their Department is maintained in a clean and safe manner by assuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are maintained.
17. Report all hazardous conditions/equipment to immediate supervisor/manager
18. Report all accidents/incidents to immediate supervisor/manager within 24hrs
19. All staff must wear protective clothing and equipment when handling infectious waste and or blood/body fluids or when doing Hazardous work i.e. working with chemicals, electrical or day to day maintenance repairs.
20. All Staff are required to participate in the Person Centered Care - Managers/Supervisors will help staff in assisting in participating in Person Centered Care.
