Function: Provide nursing and medical services to the residents of the Adult Residential Treatment Facility. Serves as a member of an organization that welcomes, engages, and serves individuals with complex wellness needs.

  1. Provide nursing and medical services to residents. 

  1. Provide education regarding prescribed medication and medical treatment to residents, families, and staff. 

  1. Document in the progress notes the provision of care and the clinical and behavioral observations of residents, using the electronic health record. 

  1. Administer and document medications adhering to state and program guidelines. 

  1. Provide emergency medical care as needed. 

  1. Receive and transcribe medical and medication orders and add medications to the electronic prescribing program.  

  1. Serve as a resource person for education and guidance on medications and medical treatments. 

  1. Provide medical information. 

  1. Write medical summaries as assigned, using the electronic health record 

  1. Implement nursing treatment approaches as designated through a nursing care plan. 

  1. Observe and assess residents in terms of therapeutic response to medication and the nursing care plan. 

  1. Complete a comprehensive head to toe nursing assessment upon a resident admission. 

  1. Complete a suicide assessment upon admission and during any safety concerns. 

  1. Complete nursing care plans for medical needs when needed 

  1. Assist residents in daily living activities. 

  1. Coordinate medical activities on shift with assigned supervisor and team members. 

  1. Assist in monitoring and documenting medical supplies, floor stock, and pharmacy communication. 

  1. Document, monitor, and assist in all aspects of the laboratory process. 

  1. Interact professionally, cooperatively, and promptly with other team members in crisis situations. 

  1. Work to ensure effective communication among team members during and between shifts. 

  1. Coordinate with staff regarding outside medical appointments and activities. 

  1. Ensure that ethical and professional standards of practice are maintained. 

  1. In addition to the above, perform other duties as assigned. 



  • Demonstrates ability to assess and document urgent and ongoing medical issues associated with residents. 

  • Ability to utilize general medical equipment to assess medical needs 

  • Demonstrates the ability to give Intramuscular, Subcutaneous and Intradermal injections according to facility procedures 

  • Demonstrates ability to prepare and administer oral, topical, sprays, medications using the five rights of medication delivery 

  • Ensures laboratory tests are ordered, prepared, documented and sent to the Lab using appropriate agency protocols. 

  • Communicates client needs to the Psychiatrist in a timely manner. 

  • Schedules medical appointments and communicates the results to the appropriate staff. 

  • Demonstrates the ability to complete nursing assessments, document risk and notify.   

  • Demonstrate effective communication both orally and in writing. 

  • Ensure documentation and assessments are completed in a time manner, and documented appropriately 

  • Demonstrates appropriate boundaries and values. 

  • Demonstrates professional demeanor, behavior, and communication. 

  • Promote whole health care as a key to people's recovery and quality of life. 

  • Demonstrate empathy, hopefulness, and resourcefulness in communication with others 

  • Use "recovery" language (ex. respectful, hopeful, person-centered, non-judgmental). 


  • WA State Registered Nurse.  One-year work experience with adults.  Experience or knowledge of psychotropic medications.  Psychiatric experience preferred.  

  • Current CPR certification.  

  • Skilled in MS Word and Outlook. 

  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills. 

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize deadlines, work independently, take initiative, and maintain confidentiality. 

  • Valid Washington State driver’s license; proof of insurance. 



Equipment/Machines Used: Computer, printer, copier, fax, and telephone

Medical Equipment used: Blood Pressure Cuff, stethoscope, scale, oximeter, thermometer, otoscope,

Physical Requirements: Safe Crisis Management ability. Ability to participate in physical holds. Physical ability to be stationary and traverse in an office environment. Frequent walking and standing. Occasional moving up to 25 lbs. Ability to transport clients as required.

Working/ Environmental Conditions: Adolescent consumer facility. Maybe residential facility or inpatient milieu. Computer use. Indoor environment.
