Viztek Launches Cloud-Based Opal-PACS Solution

Viztek has introduced a fully cloud-based, pay-per-use offering to its popular family of Opal PACS solutions for radiology and orthopedics departments. These new virtual solutions provide the same advanced features and functionalities synonymous with the Viztek name, while capitalizing on the benefits of today’s ultra-fast Internet technology and popular cloud architecture.

Cloud technology hosts IT applications and data on offsite servers, which are easily accessible over the Internet to any authorized user. This architecture simplifies image sharing and opens up streamlined image access to any authorized user anywhere. “While our cloud solution is extremely secure, users with appropriate permissions beyond the enterprise simply log in and access the application and images they need as if they were right on site,” says Steve Deaton, Vice President of Sales for Viztek.

The technology eliminates the need to connect to a facility’s onsite server and the complexities of implementing a VPN.” This streamlined image access supports cross-enterprise image sharing and faster, enhanced and more cost-effective patient care. It also brings facilities one important step closer to implementing an integrated electronic patient record, which is a major focus of healthcare today.

Additionally, Deaton also notes, ”In today’s challenging healthcare environment, imaging sites also are looking for cost-effective, practical, highly-functional solutions for image sharing between different entities. Cloud technology is the perfect answer.” He points out that by enabling payment-as-you-go it shifts image management expenses from a capital to a more easily managed operating budget. Moreover, the technology is infinitely scalable to grow with a facility’s needs and the cost of system maintenance and upgrades are built into the plan. “With cloud technology, users derive significant cost-cutting benefits from an economy of scale,” Deaton says.

Viztek Opal PACS solutions have long been available with an option for hosting on an off-site server, but VIztek’s new cloud deployments makes sharing images to users outside of a single institution fast, safe, and secure.

The new cloud technology will enable physicians in different medical facilities with access prior exams for comparison as well as to view recent images for patients newly transferred to their facility at the touch of a button. Referring physicians will receive exams more quickly and easily than ever before, while consulting and collaboration on cases will be almost instantaneous. If desired, imaging sites can grant patients online access to their own images.

“Viztek cloud-based PACS offers a multitude of benefits and capitalizes on the full value of the Internet age,” comments Deaton. Images can even be downloaded from the cloud and imported to a different facility’s existing PACS producing a more seamless result for reading physicians.
