NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders) announced the launch of the NICHE Education Briefs, a series of in-service training modules that focus on clinical care issues and trends pertinent to the Geriatric Resource Nurse (GRN) and bedside caregiver’s ability to provide evidence-based-care. The Education Brief series is being developed by Cindy Nigolian, GCNS-BC, NICHE clinical administrator. Recently published Education Briefs, available to NICHE designated hospitals can be found at http://www.nicheprogram.org/courses/144. Current NICHE Education Briefs • Self Neglect in the Hospitalized Older Adult; • Using "Teach-back" at the Bedside; • Influenza and Pneumococcal Vaccinations and Older Adults; ;• The GRN's Bedside Guide: Simple Environmental Modifications to Enhance Safety for Older Adults; and • Updated Beer's Criteria 2012—American Geriatrics Society Expert Panel More NICHE Education Briefs are in development. The NICHE Education Brief series was created at the request of NICHE coordinators, who drive the implementation of NICHE concepts and models of care for older adult patients at their respective hospitals. Evidence and practice protocols change at a rapid rate, making continuous education at the bedside a necessity. NICHE developed the Education Briefs to assist the NICHE coordinator and educator in providing this needed training. Since the briefs take as little as 30 minutes to complete, they can be used in an instructor-led format or individually reviewed online. Many come with supplemental handouts and ideas for unit- or hospital-based GRN-led NICHE strategies. |
